Initiatives for Water Conservation @SACM

#Saheed Anurup Chandra Mahavidyalaya has been meeting the #Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the #United Nations since its inception. In an endeavour to meet #SDG – 3 (Good Health and Well-Being), #SDG – 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), and #SDG – 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) the College has taken initiatives in order to improve the quality of life on campus. It includes Rainwater Harvesting, Open Well Recharge including Earth Recharge and ensuring maintenance of Water Bodies and distribution system inside the college campus.

Rainwater Harvesting

Saheed Anurup Chandra Mahavidyalaya has adopted a Rooftop Rainwater-based Groundwater Recharge System. Groundwater recharging is an excellent rainwater-capturing process in the college. Any quantity of rainwater may be channelized to replenish the groundwater level of the surrounding areas and an open well recharge.

Further, as per the adopted the policy, the college has implemented the process of reuse of harvested rain water for watering the Flower Garden and Greeneries in the college campus.

Mechanism for maintenance of water body

There is one Pond locatedbehind the administrative block in the college campus The entire pond bank is planted with selected trees which are full grown.

A min-Lake type water body is also there inside the campus at the back side of the college which has different types of fishes and Monitor Lizars (Go Sap in Bengali) and other aqua animals in the lake.

A team comprising gardeners and supervisors have been entrusted with the responsibility of taking care of the plantation and pond cleaning activities. The garden waste is put in composting pits located nearby.

The water body is in an open area so that it gets natural air.  There are some variety of fishes in the pond and aquaculture facilities are facilitated. The ponds contribute to holding and enhancing of ground water level. There is an arrangement to drain the rain water from front and back side of the campus to the pond area for rain water storage purpose.
